( ( Service-Information Motorcycle BMW NA Service Department Group: 71 Accessories March, 1988 71 004 88 ( 2278) For USA Only System I and II Helmets Problem: Remedy: Locks, Latches and Pivots: System II Helmet: Very truly yours, We noticed that the edge molding on BMWSy stem I and II Helmets may become loose, causing the painted surface at the molding to crack. With a slight pressure, pull downward on the molding to expose approximately a 3 – 5 11111 gap under the molding. Using a Cyanoacrylate glue (Super Glue), run a thin line along the exposed area. Release the downward pressure and hold in position for 60 seconds. We recommend using a Super Glue “Pen”, (such as “Krazy Glue – Pen”) which is commercially available. Don’t overapply – use sparingly for a professional appearance. In our Parts Accessory Microfiche – pages 72/22 and 72/27 – are drawings of a 11 Locks, Latches and Pivots. This hardware should be periodically lubricated and checked for tightness. Use CRC 556 or WO 40 to lubricate. An additional strap has been added to later production System II Helmets. This strap is located under the felt lining and to the rear of the Helmet. In isolated cases, where the wrong strap was fitted (too short), the additional strap will prohibit the Helmet from fitting properly. If you experience this, contact your Technical Services Manager for a longer strap.
