Affected VIN Range: Yr. 1987 1988 1988 Problem: Model RSORT RlOORT RlOORS VINs 6491451 – 6491452 6292601 – 6293171 6247001 – 6247549 Total Motorcycles 2 572 549 1123 The brake pipe which is under the gas tank on the left side of the frame may chafe on the inside gas tank surface, or chafe on the speedometer cable. Information: 1989-1991 models: Although the Brake Pipe is positioned on the same side of the frame, the pipe exits the fairing on the right. Due to this the pipe is held away from the gas tank. Parts: Order the following kit: Part Number3 4 32 9 062 451 This kit consists of the following parts: 2 Hose Clamps 1 Support 1 Brake Pipe 1 Protection Sleeve 13 72 1 261 028 34 32 1 457 907 34 32 1 457 909 12 14 2 310 967 Installation Instructions: 1. Removeth e fuel tank 2. Check whether the brake pipe touches the tank, speedometer cable or wiring harness. The brake pipe must be replaced if there are any scuff or chafing marks on it. If there are no marks at all, do not exchange the brake pipe. The brake pipe must be secured with an additional hose clamp and support, so that its position cannot change. To make the assembly easier, remove the cable tie, which secures the wiring harness to the frame tube. The protection sleeve is designed to shield the brake pipe. This protection sleeve can be installed on the brake hose either before or after the pipe is secured. 5. Ensure that there is sufficient clearance between the frame tube and brake pipe. If necessary, bend the pipe so that a distance of 14 mm is between the pipe and frame tube. ~ ~ \ ‘. I 14/ ~ 6. To prevent corrosion, any scuff marks on the fuel tank must be touched up. Our analysis of this chafing has proven that the fuel tank is only chafed a small amount. Therefore, it is not necessary to replace the fuel tank. Status: All affected motorcycles, regardless of time in service or mileage, will be reimbursed for this Recall Campaign through Campaign Claim submission. Please read Section 4, pages 15 – 17 of the Motcrcycls Warranty Manual for complete information about these special claims. Campaign Claims are attached. Rate .Unit.s have been added to Work Packages #1 and #2 to cover the costs of supplies (cable ties, brake fluid, etc.). Brake pipe showing scuff marks will be requested through Warranty Parts Return. Identification: Please affix a special label {see S.I. #2351 or 2468 – Group 1) to the motorcycle frame (under the seat) with the number •g• punched out to identify that the Recall has been performed on the motorcycle.
