Service Department Group: 51 Equipment February, 1993 51 004 93 (2577) Installation of “Battle of the Legends” Decals For USA Only Many technicians are reluctant to attempt installation due to the potential of not getting the decals on straight or damaging them. Using the following instructions will allow you to move the decal after placing it on the tank. Hint: Apply the decal at room temperature. The motorcycle fuel tank should also be at room temperature for a few hours prior to installation. Instructions: Tank Decals -Wash and dry the surfaces to which the decal will be applied. -Use a clean cloth with wax remover to remove wax or any other residue from the fuel tank and side covers. -Mix a mild solution of liquid detergent and water in a spray bottle (the key is a mild solution). Use liquid detergent not liquid soap (soap will leave a film). -Spray a generous amount of solution on either side of the tank. -Carefully peel the decal from the contact paper. There are right and left decals for the fuel tank only. -While the solution is running off the side of the tank, position the decal. Note: Do not allow the decal to contact any dirt or contact itself. -Position the decal so the word “Battle” is approximately 1 /2 inch below the BMW emblem on the fuel tank, and the yellow “paint splash” is approximately 1 /4 inch from the side of the BMW emblem. -The s,1lution of detergent and water will enable you to move the decal into the exact position. Please initial and route to the following before filing Service ___I_ ยท–_-~~_rts I Sales J Warranty I Technicians -Using a clean cloth and a decal squeegee (a decal squeegee is available at any paint supply store for under $5.00), squeegee . out all the air bubbles from under the decal, use the cloth to dry the solution which is squeegeed out. -Once you begin to squeegee the solution out from under the decal, the decal will adhere to the tank. -If the decal moves while you are pressing out the air bubbles, then you have used too much detergent. -Apply the decal in the same way to the opposite side of the fuel tank. -Have an assistant stand behind the motorcycle and help position the decal so that it is in-line with the other side. Since there aren’t any sharp edges, it is difficult to align it perfectly. -After the decal has set, apply a coat of liquid wax- Part Number – 82 14 9 400 134.
