RE: COUPLING OF UNIVERSAL JOINT TO GEARBOX
Dear Dealer:
In the future, lock washers will not be used to bolt the
universal joint to the gearbox drive flange.
Long-time testing has demonstrated that drive shaft bolts
without lock washers will not come lapse provided they
are tightened to the specified torque ‘.qf_

Lock washers are not needed when repairing motorcycles
prior to 1981. However, please bear in mind
that in those motorcycle you should use the
shorter (13mm – long) bolt, because the longer
(14.5mm) projects through the drive flange and may
damage the gearbox output seal.
