Oil Supply to the Rocker Shafts — Boxer Engines

Examination of parts returned under warranty
has revealed that the rocker shafts are
sometimes installed incorrectly, so that
the oil supply cannot reach the rocker
pivot bearings.
The rocker shafts have an off-center punch
mark on one end. Make sure that this
mark is at the TOP on all shafts, and
is FACING OUT, away from the cylinder
head.
This is to insure that oil under pre:;sure
can reach the needle bearings by way of
the upper studs and the bore in the rocker
shafts. Installation as described will
assure that the needle bearing is properly
lubricated.
During service work, please look for the
marks and insure they are i;-, the proper
location.
