Service-Information Motorcycle BMW NA Service Department Group: 36 Wheels l nres August 1991 36 048 91 (2472) Tire Balancing Fluids/Sealants – Tire Repatr Kits For USA Only Information: The use of tire balancing fluid/sealants may cause the tire to come off the rim if air is lost quickly. In addition, the fluid may have a reaction with the wheel or even the tire. For the above reasons the use of this balancing fluid/sealant is not recommended. Some brands of emergency flat tire inflators contain propane and/or isobutane as a propellant and inflating agent. The presence of these gases can present a hazard to a technician dismounting a tire. Whenever a tire on a customer’s vehicle is being dismounted, and it cannot be determine whether a flat tire inflater has been used, the tire shuld be considered to contain these hazardous gases. Deflate the tire in a well-ventilated area, away from any open flames, sparks, or other ignition sources. Inflate and deflate the tire several times to purge as much residual gas from the tire as possible. Once the tire has been purged, it may be dismounted in the normal manner, but reasonable care should be taken to prevent any unnecessary sparks or ignition sources in the work area. Tire manufacturers – Pirelli, Continental, Michelin, Metzeler, Dunlop and Bridgestone – do not recommend balancing fluids. The use of aftermarket emergency repair kits is not recommended or approved.
