Ref: Excessive Free Travel of the Hand Brake Lever (Disc Brake)
It may occur that the brake piston sealing gets jammed if the
brake is not used for a longer period. This causes excessive
roll-back of the sealing, in fact, the piston is pressed onto
the brake disc, and when released, returns then to its original
position which results in too much free motion of the brake
caliper.
Provided that the brake pad and the hand brake cable are correctly
adjusted and the brake system is correctly vented, we
recommend the following remedy:
Remove front wheel – press out the brake piston for 0.4 – 0.8 in.
(1-2 cm) by fast actuation of the hand brake lever after having
removed the brake pads. Then f~rce back the brake caliper into its
housing up to the stop using a screw clamp or similar tool.
CAUTION: Do not damage the protective cover.
Repeat this procedure for each brake caliper two or three times,
more brake fluid will reach the sealing and the piston is no
ยท1onger jammed.
If this does not help, the piston can be forced out totally and
installed again after having checked it thoroughly for corrosion
and after having it greased with brake-cylinder paste.
If there is no improvement in spite of all these measures, the
brake caliper should be exchanged.
Yours faithfully,
