( Service-Informatio&n Group 11 Engine October 1979 Bulletin No. 11 012 79 (2006) – For U.S.A. and Canada Only – Subject: Maintenance of Emission Control Systems for 1980 Models The emission values for our 1980 model motorcycles amount to 5 g/km HC and 12 g/km CO. To obtain these emission values the Pulse Air System has been created and incorporated in our 1980 models, in addition to changes already made in 1978 and 1979 models. This system draws air from the intake air cleaner housing to the exhaust port of the cylinder head shortly behind the exhaust valve. Engine performance is not influenced by this change and no special maintenance procedures are required. Additionally, a redesigned air cleaner housing with a new air filter element has been developed. Ignition timing remains the same, but adjustment of the carburetors has changed slightly. Idle Speed and Idle Mixture Adjustment Procedure: 1. Engine at operating temperature. Stop engine. 2. Tighten, clockwise, both idle mixture control screws fully. Loosen them by 3/4 turn (R 65, R 80) or 1 turn (R 100). 3. Adjust both throttle valve stop screws until they just touch throttle valve levers. Continue clockwise 1/2 turn (R 65, R 80) or 1 turn (R 100). Restart engine. 4. Adjust engine idle speed to 950 ยฑ 150 rpm by simultaneously turning the throttle valve stop screws . โ€ข 5.
