Squealing noise from rear drum brake when brake is
applied.
The squeal is caused by the return spring vibrating.
Depending on the intensity of the vibration, this
squeal can be annoying.
Installa'tion of a dampening rubber around the brake
spring at the Brake Shoe Pivot will dampen the
vibration and the squeal noise will be minimized.
There are two (2') different size.dampening rubbers:
1. K75 with sand cast brake shoes
Use Part No. 34 21 1 457 602 - 55mm long
2. K75 with pressure cast brake shoes
Use Part No. 34 21 1 457 572 - 70mm long
3. R65, R80 and R80RT
Use Part No. 34 21 1 457 572 - 70mm long
The dampening rubber is installed at the factory on
1987 mode1 s .
The rubber damper is installed only onto the rear
brake shoe return spring. The flat side of the
rubber rests against the brake shoe and pivot cam,
with the s 1 anted side facing the rear whee 1 (facing
the left).
When installing this rubber damper, also change
both brake springs.
