Model~ Information: This Service Information bulletin is being written to โ€ข provide all authorized BMW motorcycle dealers with accurate information concerning brake squeal. The design of the BMW brake system utilizes friction materials developed for performance under a wide range of operating conditions (hot:and cold temperatures, etc.). The chemical structure of every brake pad or shoe changes with age and temperature. Due to these and other influences, the .. brake pad or shoe I is designed to provi.de performance b~-a~ โ€ข g throughout the life of the brake components. ~ The brake pads or shoes used by BMWยทยท are designed to maintain high chemical stability under extreme temperatures. Dec,1eratio1 from lower spee.ds, as in city type riding, causes the brakes to be not as hot as when braking from high speeds. When a motorcycle is used primarily in city traffic, the pads become harder, which may then cause squealing. This- will not impair the operation or performance of the braking system. There are currently brake pads and shoes available through sources other than BMW. These brake components could compromise deceleration behavior, reliability, wear, and comfort.
