\ Service-Information$ Group: 36 March Bulletin No.: Wheels & Tires 1982 36 015 82 (2059) – For U.S.A. and Canada only – RE: BMW APPROVED WHEELS AND TIRES Dear Dealer: In the last two years we have tested various tire combinations from different manufacturers, and approved them for either original equipment or replacement. From the enclosed list you will note all details. MOUNTING ADVICE: ( 1) Please note arrow indicators molded into sidewalls, but not by all manufacturers. The arrows on the sidewalls indicate not only direction of travel, but al,so indicate load capab.ilities. (a) Rear tire, arrow on top, facing towards the front of the motorcycle. .. ~\- .. (b) Front tire, arrow on top, facing •towards rear of the motorcycle. The tires are designed tor hetter tractiori under loads, i.e., the front tire needs its best traction when braking and the rear tire when accelerating .. Some manufacturers are using two arrows, one marked “front wheel,” the other marked “rear wheel.” Mount them accordingly. (2) Tire and tube manufacturers must be identical, since they are designed as a pair. (3) Tubes must be replaced whenever the tire is renewed. After mileage, the heat will stretch the original tube, therefore when installed in a new tire, it.could be possible that this tube would be ”folded” inside the tire, causing eventual failure. (4) Install!’ing tires on Mag wheels is difficult.
