From Tom in Oregon:
My uncle bought this bike used in Washington, DC with under 10K miles in the early 1980s. Despite going through a phenomenal number of bikes in his time, he always kept coming back to this old Toaster for its simplicity, solidity, and comfort. He put over 80,000 miles on it, usually by taking long summer road trips up to Maine, before hanging up his helmet in his mid 70s.
He shipped it cross-country to me in Oregon in 2021, and I’ve done little but keep it fettled and on the road. While my longer trips have been on my larger displacement Airheads, I’ve done lots of shorter trips up and down the Willamette Valley and up into the Cascade mountains on this bike. It’s 50 years old, but holds its own beautifully and has never let me down. The paint is all original, the chrome is in fine condition, and it now has about 95,000 miles. I’m dedicated to keeping it rolling as long as possible, but the next goal is to enjoy rolling it over 100,000 – maybe next year!
