Subject: Heated Handlebar Grips
May we introduce to you a new item in our accessory line-up:
The heated handlebar grip kits are available for:
R 75/6 – R 90 S
R 60/7 – R 100 s
R 65 – R 100 S
R 100 RT
R 100 RS
In order to install

Please route and initial before filing

Remove the left and
right instrument cover
retaining screws (arrows)
on R 65 only.

Using circlip pliers, remove
ring nut from ignition switch.
Pull out the flashing turn indicator
repeater bulb holders
downwards and left off the
crash pad.
Important: note clips close to
handlebar clamp blocks on R 65.
On R 60/7 – R 100 RS, pull crash
pad away from handlebar.
Push back the waterproofing cap
(on R 60/7 – R 100 RS only).
Unscrew the cover of the
throttle cable actuating unit
and pull off the throttle
twistgrip.
Unscrew theยทswitch from the left
handlebar fitting. Push a screwdriver
blade between the rubber
grip and the handlebar, and
inject a quantity of oil with an
oil can.
Pull out the screwdriver and
twist the rubber grip, at the
same time pulling it off.

Unscrew the 4 hexagon bolts on
the handlebar clamp blocks (on
the R 65 remove the two front
bolts and push the retaining
plate to one side). Turn the
handlebar down as far as possible
and screw up one clamp block bolt
again on each side until just
tight. Drill two 6.5 mm (1/4″)
diameter holes between the clamp
blocks, 15 mm (19/32″) to left
and right of the handlebar
centerline.
To secure the left heated handlebar
grip, drill two 3.5 mm (9/64″)
diameter holes on the opposite
side. Insert the wires into the
handlebar tube and attach the (
heated grip with Phillips-head
countersunk screws. Insert the
cable from the throttle twistgrip.
Return the handlebar to the normal
position and tighten it. Normal
position: the punch mark on the
handlebar tube must be precisely
aligned with the joint face on the
inside of the right handlebar
mounting.
Install the crash pad on the
R 100 RS.

Push the right fitting out as far
as possible (slacken the clamp
screw), until the base of the
throttle twistgrip no longer
touches the end of the handlebar
tube (risk of cable abrasion).
Connect the lower throttle cable
to the double nipple and insert
in the handlebar grip with the
chain and adjusting cam so that
ยทmarks “e” and 11b 11 are precisely
opposite one another. Connect the
upper throttle cable to the double
nipple. Mount the cover and at
the same time pull back the wire
cable so that the end sleeve can
engage in the cover. Tighten the
cover.
Connect the heated grip wires to
the installation kit wiring harness
with screw-block terminals as
follows:
brown
black
brown
green/red
Run the wires down on the right
between the brake line and the
instrument carrier (R 65). On the
R 60/7 – R 100 RT, run the wires
down in front of the revolution
counter.
Press the dummy right switch out of
the crash pad and insert the switch
with wiring harness. The push contact
must be at the bottom edge
(arrow). Install the crash pad
{R 60/7 – R 100 RT) and attach the
instrument cover (R 65).
Run the wiring harness th~ough
(see Fig. 009).
For the R 100 RS, mount the push
button switch on the right headlight
mounting (installation as
for the hazard warning flasher unit).

Detach the green/black wire from
the brake light switch and connect
to the wire of the same color on
the wiring harness (1). Connect
the free end of the green/black
wire from the wiring harness to
the brake light switch (2).
On R 60/7 – R 100 RS, the fuel
tank must be removed first.
Remove the fuel tank (R 65 only)
and connect the brown earth (ground)
cable from the wiring harness to
the earth (ground) point on the
front coil mounting.
Connect the additional cable belo{
the headlight to the cable connector
on the main wiring harness.
