However, please note that engines with mechanical revolution counter drive connection will continue to be available until further notice. Please keep this in mind when ordering in future. 1. Installation of complete twin-dial instrument with wiring harness (model ’78). 2. Exchange of existing revolution counter for an electronic instrument, but retaining the old instrument casing (see instructions for installation given below). 2.1 Remove cover, sealing cap, bulb carrier and high beam telltale lamp and take revolution counter out of housing complete with bulb carrier. 2.2 Drill two holes of 2.6 mm diameter (see illustration} in the plastic baseplate of the electronic revolution counter. Important: If the black lead from terminal 1 of the coil is already present (this can be detected by the presence of a connecting sleeve in No. 10 of the 12-pole moulded-on plug), the holes need not be drilled. 2.3 The three cables from the revolution counter, with flat plug connectors, are soldered at the base of the bulb carrier pins as follows: Red lead 2:i’.’own lead Gr6~~n lead = = = (+) to pin 12 (-) to pin 7 (ignition pulse) to pin 10 Kenntnis genommen โ€ข Pris connaissance – Noted – Tornado nota – Preso conoscenza Ablage – Archives – Fileโ€ข Archivo Betriebsleitung I WerKstatt -‘,โ€ขโ€ข~I:~ โ€ข BelriebsJeitung I Wer.ks.1att AT~ltP-r – 2 – On model ’77 motorcycles, pin 10 is not present, neither is the unused cable to the coil installed. In this case the green lead must be lengthened and run parallel to the wiring harness from the twin-dial instrument to the coil (the wiring to terminal 1 from the distributor). Please ensure that this cable is provided with a knot to relieve tension (see picture). 2.4 Re-assemble in the opposite sequence to that described above. After this, remove the drive cable for the mechanical revolution counter. The worm wheel with shim washer, sealing ring and plastic bushing remain in the mounting and are secured with the M 6 bolt. The shaft must be divided so that it can be pulled out of the rubber seal. The opening which remains in the seal is closed off with a plug: BMW part number 63 23 1 351 257.
