The most noticeable changes are: Change: Important: Complaint: Cause: Remedy: Note: 1. The density of the filter material 2. Number of folds 3. Outside surface of the filter 4. A better fit to the cover and air box lower housing The filter manufacturer’s raised imprint is now facing the front. Please note that this is contrary to instructions printed in the Rider 1s Manual and repair fiche. Please pass this information on to your customers. Filters with the manufacturer’s name in white paint are installed with the printing facing the rear. Due to casting variations in the air filter cover of 1980 model motorcycles (sandcast covers)ยท, it may be necessary to replace the upper cover with a current plastic cover – Part No. 13 72 l 337 228 – at the customer’s expense. Air leaks between the air filter element an the lower section of the housing. The filter frame a round the filter element is not seating properly into the lower air box. Remove materi a 1 from the filter frame as i 11 ustra ted (arrows). Since September, 1986, air filters have been modified on all production motorcycles.
