Connecting Rod Weights — Kand Boxer Models
General
Information:
Note:
For any engine with more than one cylinder
to run smoothly, it is important for the weights
of each connecting rod to differ as little
as possible from each other.
BMW connecting rods are divided into seven
weight catagories when manufactured, differing
in weight by 7 – 8 grams. They can be identified
by color coding. Only connecting rods
in the same weight catagory should be installed
in an engine.
Connecting rods can be ordered by color code.
Please use the chart on the back of this Service
Information for reference when ordering.
All connecting rod bolts should be tightened
as specified in our workshop manual.
For safety, connecting rod bolts should not
be re-used.
Very truly yours,
BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, INC.
