BMW connecting rods are divided into seven weight catagories when manufactured, differing in weight by 7 – 8 grams. They can be identified by color coding. Only connecting rods in the same weight catagory should be installed in an engine. Connecting rods can be ordered by color code. Please use the chart on the back of this Service Information for reference when ordering. All connecting rod bolts should be tightened as specified in our workshop manual. For safety, connecting rod bolts should not be re-used.
